Classic buses at work

The latest edition – No.7 – in the On the Buses bookazine series, features a further selection of period, black and white photographs of classic buses at work. The images were originally taken to accompany press stories of the day, and those are quoted with the photographs, too.

Written and edited by Vintage Roadscene magazine editor, Mike Forbes, this new, 100-page, A4-format, perfect-bound publication includes fascinating illustrations of many different buses and coaches at work, dating from the early post-war years, through to the 1960s. As a bonus, some later, motor show images have been included, as well. A range of independent, municipal and company operators are featured, from places right across the UK ranging from Bournemouth to Dundee.

As well as a host of interesting photos of vehicles, including rear views, bus stations, garage and workshop scenes, the publication also includes many interesting comments about running bus services in different circumstances, a lot covering problems (which wouldn’t surprise a modern bus operator!), notably from the independents.

So this new release really does represent a feast of nostalgia and interest for all those with a liking for classic buses at work, with many, never-seen-before photographs and much else besides.
