Ashley Lovering reports from the always-popular Neath Steam & Vintage Show, which took place next to the Cefn Coed Colliery Museum at Crynant.

Neath Steam & Vintage Show: Event hosts Ian and Pearl Davies own a significant collection of classic lorries, tractors and much else, and some of their collection was on display.

This year’s Neath Steam & Vintage Show, which takes place on Ian Davies’ premises adjacent to the Cefn Coed Colliery Museum at Crynant, not far from Swansea, in south Wales, happened over the weekend of June 8th-9th and was, as usual, well attended. The show is always well supported by the local lorry-preservation fraternity, but there was lots else to see, as well.

Neath garden centre Zoars Ark now owns this Vulcan 6PF platform lorry, with six-cylinder Perkins engine.

In addition to a good selection of lorries (including several from Ian Davies’ personal collection which has been featured in CVC in the past), visitors were also able to enjoy impressive displays of tractors, plant, classic cars, military vehicles and fire engines, together with sales stalls aplenty. Here are some photographs of a few of the classic commercials that were in attendance.

Danny Thomas and family were at the event with two of their restored AEC tippers. Danny is also something of a Scania fan – to put it mildly!

Kev Scrivener brought along his Foden S21 ‘Mickey Mouse’ eight-wheeler. New in 1963 to Tate & Lyle, it’s now a flat with box containing living accommodation.

There were several Scammells on display, including this lovely Pioneer which is owned and preserved by Tony Morgan.

Gareth Smith of Ammanford owns this rather fine-looking 1974 Atkinson Borderer, SVA 640M. Neath is quite a way from Fraserburgh…
