Showbus is back!

Posted by Chris Graham on 12th January 2024

We report on the great news that Showbus – the world’s biggest bus and coach display – is returning, and will be taking place this September.

Showbus is back! Bedford Chassis No.1 outside the Victorian station at the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre. Many more PSVs of all ages will be passing by here next September.

Great news for those whose commercial vehicle interests include buses and coaches – Showbus is returning in 2024, with a new and hopefully permanent home at the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre, that’s near Aylesbury, in Buckinghamshire.

For over half a century, Showbus was generally considered to be the primary event for bus and coach enthusiasts, and one which most of the major players supported with huge enthusiasm. For many years it was hosted by the Imperial War Museum at Duxford but, following management changes there, this arrangement came to an end. In more recent years the event had something of a nomadic existence, being run at various locations around Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire.

However, getting the show going again post-covid proved difficult and, with the team behind the event ‘not getting any younger’, organiser Martin Isles decided, reluctantly, that the 2022 event – which was also the 50th anniversary – would be the last.

Since then, however, a number of individuals and organisations approached Martin with plans, ideas and suggestions for the show to continue/restart. After many months of discussion, agreement has finally been reached with the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre at Quainton. As well as providing a location, the BRC has a team of people that can help run the event, including accepting registrations, selling tickets and site preparation/management. Quainton also has space to store the show equipment; apparently moving all of this to and from the site every year was becoming difficult.

‘Other attractions’ are a major plus point of holding vehicle events at railway venues…

We understand that the plan is for Martin Isles to remain involved for 2024 at least, but then he’ll be stepping down after that and, in due course, will hand the event over completely. This will hopefully secure its long-term future.

Showbus 2024, the first at Quainton, will take place on Sunday, September 29th. The full address is Buckinghamshire Railway Centre, Station Road, Quainton, nr Aylesbury, Bucks HP22 4BY, and you can find out more by visiting: www.showbus.com
