John McGovern’s classic lorry collection to be sold
Posted by Chris Graham on 31st May 2024
The sale of John McGovern’s classic lorry collection has been announced and will be handled by Doncaster-based Commercial Vehicle Auctions.
Following the sad passing of John McGovern earlier this year, his family has announced that a dispersal sale of the historic lorry collection is to take place on Saturday, September 21st. But first, the family plans for some of the collection to attend shows in 2024 as usual, and as a tribute to John. This will include the Classic & Vintage Commercials Show at Gaydon on June 8th-9th, where the familiar red of ‘Mcgovern Corner’ will feature for the final time. We also understand that the family will be displaying at least one newly-completed restoration that hasn’t been seen before in public.
Commercial Vehicle Auctions of Doncaster has been entrusted with the sale, though we should make clear that it will actually be held at a location in the South East, though the exact site has yet to be finalised. As well as around 20 lorries, a large quantity of spares will also be offered. We understand that this will include a number of rare new items, though exactly what there is isn’t yet known as stuff is still, apparently, being found. Two or three favourite vehicles are being kept by the family.
We will, of course, provide more information as soon as it’s available, but in the meantime, email enquiries can be sent to jonny@cva-auctions.co.uk
