Steam Toys and Meccano Show
Posted by Chris Graham on 19th July 2022
We preview the brilliant Steam Toys and Meccano Show taking place at Armley Mills Industrial Museum in Leeds, at the end of this month.
Following the demise of the Leeds & District Traction Engine Club’s Toy Steam Engine event, there is to be another similar show – The Steam Toys and Meccano Show – and the event will be taking place at the Armley Mills Industrial Museum, in Canal Road, Leeds LS12 2QF, on Sunday, July 31st. The event is being organised by the Friends of Pudsey Roller.
Youngsters and enthusiasts of all ages are invited to bring along their steam-powered toys – Mamods, Wilescos, stationary or mobile – to run and display on the day. However, young exhibitors must be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult, and the club reserves the right to prevent unsafe toys from being run. The show starts at 12 noon, and will conclude around 4.30pm.
Entry will be at the normal museum admission charge, and exhibits will be spread throughout the museum. There will be several steam-related Meccano items on display – some, hopefully, steam-operated – and space will also be available for a limited number of trade stands. Interested parties should apply to the event chairman, Derek Rayner, by calling 01904 781519 or sending an email to: derekinvicta1915@gmail.com. In addition, the event is running a helpline, which can be found at: 01132 570371.
