National Vintage Tractor Road Run
Posted by Chris Graham on 7th March 2020
Time is running short to enter this year’s National Vintage Tractor Road Run (NVTRR) so please send in your entry forms as soon as possible. The organiser this year – the Glamorgan Vintage Tractor Club – says the route wind its way through some wonderful countryside in the Vale of Glamorgan, taking in ancient villages, Roman roads and, weather permitting, some spectacular sea.
Photographers are booked and the event will be filmed by John Clancy and Bobby Ball. This year’s National is the 35th, and Wayne’s committee is working hard to make it something special. The aim is to raise as much money as possible for the two charities chosen this year Wales Air Ambulance and Marie Curie – and to make it an event to remember.
Chairman of the Glamorgan Vintage Tractor Club, Wayne Griffiths, met with representatives of the chosen charities recently at Wales Air Ambulance, HQ, Llanelli. As luck would have it, the aircraft wasn’t out on a call, so the photo opportunity was a success. Wayne was joined by Alison, from Marie Curie Cymru and Wendy, from Wales Air Ambulance. Both organisations are working closely to promote the event.
NVTRR 2020 takes places at LLanilid Farm, Pencoed, nr Bridgend (CF35 5LA) on April 12th, with all proceeds donated to Wales Air Ambulance and Marie Curie. The venue for the National Vintage Tractor Road Run 2021 has just been announced. The co-founder of the long-established and ever-popular NVTRR has revealed that it will return to Scotland in 2021, and take place at Kirkland Kirkcolm, Wigtownshire, on the edge of Loch Ryan.
The organising team for next year will be the Glenluce Vintage Tractor Club, which is proud to be hosting the run. Chairman Ken McKie and event coordinator, Stewart Brise, together with their team, are looking forward to welcoming entrants to this picturesque corner of Galloway.
They also point out that direct ferry access to Northern Ireland, from Cairn Ryan, will give Irish vintage tractor drivers an opportunity to take part, hopefully adding a welcome boost to the entrants.
Commenting on the news, Ashley said: “NVTRR 2021 has been talked about for some considerable time, our very good friend David Turnbull has done exceptionally good work for us to get this far. So, we’re delighted to announce the event at last. We have lots of good friends who we know well from previous Nationals. Already they’ve put a good team together, and are making excellent progress.”
