We report from the recent and very successful Winter Steam Gala held at the Great Central Railway, in Loughborough.

With the last of the Covid restrictions lifted just the day before the event, the Winter Steam Gala at the Great Central Railway – held on January 28th-30th – saw nearly 4,000 people attend over the three days.

Coupled with the previous two weekends that saw the new-build A1 No. 60163 Tornado in action before its overhaul, GCR spokesman Michael Stokes said that it could have been the most successful January on record for the railway.

The event was supplemented by appearances from Bulleid ‘Merchant Navy’ class No. 34072 257 Squadron, visiting from Swanage, and the Butterley-based BR Standard 4MT No. 80080.
